The Landgraf Medal has been awarded by the Rascals, Rogues, and Rapscallions since 1995. A total of 21 medals exist.
Created by Lair No. 1 in memory of fallen Rascal Jonathan Z. Landgraf, the medal is produced by Lisa Kotchey, a goldsmith and jewelry designer based in Sharpsburg, Pennsylvania. Rascal John McGeoy who had taken a jewelry-making course from Kotchey, recommended her to the Lair. Kotchey sculpted the medal, which bears elements of the RR&R flag in its design, and created a mold from the sculpture. That mold is then used to cast of medals in bronze.
Each medal is manufactured on demand by Kotchey as it is won. It is engraved on the back with the name of the winner. Some medals also have a sequence number and a date engraved on their backs. In some cases, the engraved dates refer to the year the award was won, and in other case it refers to the date the medal was presented. In the former case, only the year is engraved; in the latter case, the full date is engraved.
First-time winners of the Mass Challenge receive a bronze version of the medal. Two-time winners have their original bronze medal returned to Kotchey to be silver-plated and engraved with a second date. Three-time winners have their medal gold-plated and engraved a third time. For each subsequent win, a star is added to the medal's ribbon.
Two different ribbons have been used with this medal. No. 1 and No. 2 were suspended from an Inter-American Defense Board Medal ribbon. All subsequent medals have been suspended from a World War I Victory Medal ribbon.
